Through this series of paintings, Artawan wants to appropriate flamboyant contemporary life as if it is unreal. Aesthetically, Artawan is interested in the reflection and transparency that exits in bottles, glass, water, metal, plastic and ice. Thus, he considers realistic style photos with a leaning toward hyperrealism as the most apt and plausible choice.
Dodit Artawan, who was born and raised in Bali, has been aware of the magnitude of the alcohol consumption tradition since his teens. He eventually witnessed the problems that alcohol causes in society and also in his own private life. Liquor became an inseparable part of his life’s journey, which became one of the main ideas in his realist paintings. Since 2001, Dodit has exhibited in numerous solo and collective exhibitions on a national and international scale.
