Recently, Widyasena’s work has addressed the issue of outer space civilisations and retro futurism utopia in the 1940s and 1980s. The end of the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the the United States was criticised for being the end of the search for civilisations in outerspace, which was seen as a dream from a new human civilisation. Widyasena has chosen to juxtapose drawing as a medium and printmaking on metal to work through these ideas.
Working together, Widyasena and Mancanagara present an installation that takes issue with the chronic stupidity in this country. Of course, education is the main target for accusation. Widyasena offers a series of futuristic products to resolve the problem of low intelligence. Meanwhile, Mancanagara creates a fictional institution that attempts to research the beginnings of the intelligence in this country, and presents it as a game.
